Endovascular Intervention & Interventional Cardiology


After graduating top of his class at Allama Iqbal Medical College in his native Pakistan, Dr. Mubashar Choudry received his residency training and cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. He completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at Winthrop University Hospital in New York and established the very first out-patient vascular/endovascular center in the Washington, DC area.

In 2005, the out-patient vascular center in Takoma Park, Maryland opened its doors to the community providing out-patient limb salvage. “Saving Limbs, Saving Lives.” Dr. Choudry has served as consultant cardiologist to various area hospitals, including John Hopkins-Suburban Hospital, Washington Adventist Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, and MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Choudry served as a Clinical Associate Professor at Georgetown University Hospital and as Clinical Professor at the Cardiothoracic Institute of George Washington University Hospital. At both institutions, he was actively involved in the teaching and training of cardiology fellows and resident physician. Dr. Choudry has also held numerous leadership positions, including director of the cath lab and member of the quality assurance committee at different hospitals.

Currently, Dr. Choudry is the Chief Medical Officer of the Washington Vascular Specialists, a premier limb salvage and amputation prevention centers in the Maryland and D.C. area. Dr. Choudry contributed extensively to the field of interventional cardiology in his native Pakistan. As one of the few physicians from Pakistan practicing in the field of interventional cardiology, Dr. Choudry introduced the field in his country by holding conferences and live workshops. In recognition for his services in the field of cardiology, Dr. Choudry was awarded “Sitara e Imtiaz” by the president of Pakistan, one of the highest civilian awards in Pakistan. He was appointed member of the White House commission on drug free communities by President Bill Clinton. Through this commission, he was able to convince then-Senator Joe Biden to introduce the idea of mandatory one hour CME’s for all the physicians to combat the drug epidemic in United States.

Vascular Surgeon


Dr. Deaton completed his surgical residency and research fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (’92) and his vascular fellowship at UCLA (’94). Dr. Deaton has practiced in a variety of private and academic settings most recently as Chief – Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and also as Director, Clinical Vascular Research and Founder and Medical Director, Vascular Non-Invasive Laboratory. Dr. Deaton left Georgetown in 2013 to devote the majority of his time to medical device innovation and development. Since 2013 he has served as Chief Medical Officer for Endologix, Chief Medical Officer for Syntactx in addition to consulting for start-ups and established medical device companies. Since leaving full-time clinical practice he has practiced on a part-time basis at the Cleveland Clinic(Main Campus, Cleveland, OH) and the University of South Carolina/Palmetto Richland(Columbia, SC).

Dr. Deaton has been involved in the development and evolution of endovascular aortic therapy since its inception and contributed significantly to a variety of other interventional/endovascular techniques since 1993. He was a leading investigator in the first US EVAR (EVT/Ancure bifurcated endograft) trial and provided the primary FDA panel testimony for the first approved EVAR device in the United States in 1999. Dr. Deaton served as a primary investigator in Phase I clinical trials of four different aortic endograft technologies. He devoted 10 years to the development of the first endovascular suturing device (Aptus end anchor) to include pre-clinical development, first-in-man(Venezuela), and the first-in-man US and served as a primary clinical consultant to Aptus during that period. He has held academic appointments at UCLA, the University of Pennsylvania, East Carolina University, and the University of Maryland in addition to his tenure at Georgetown. Dr. Deaton has held leadership positions in several vascular societies, most recently as Chairman of the Political Action Committee of the SVS. His interest in new translational vascular therapies resulted in numerous roles at established and start-up medical device companies over the last 25 years. He has authored numerous peer and non-peer-reviewed articles as well as vascular text chapters throughout his career and has been a speaker and faculty member at more than 175 meetings in the US, EU, ANZ, and Asia.

After graduating from St. George’s University School of Medicine as an Iota Epsilon Alpha (International Medical Honor Society), Dr. Andrei Gursky completed his Surgery residency at Western Reserve/ Forum Health Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine Youngstown, Ohio. Here he distinguished himself by receiving the Outstanding Chief Resident Award. Subsequently, he completed his residency in Thoracic Surgery University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee where he also served as the Chief Resident. He is board certified and Diplomate of American Board of Thoracic Surgery & American Board of Surgery. He practiced cardiovascular surgery in Ohio and Missouri before moving to the DC metro area 5 years ago where he practiced advanced vascular surgery. He is a skilled endovascular surgeon with advanced skills in central and peripheral angioplasty, atherectomy, and stenting techniques. Dr Gursky also has advanced knowledge in wound care/hyperbaric medicine where he was chief of wound surgical care in the past.

Dr. Donald Wilkerson graduated from Washington University in St Louis School of Medicine and completed his fellowship at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Wilkerson performed over 400-500 interventions annually at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD and was recognized as the “Surgery Subspecialty Instructor of the Year” for 5 years during his tenure at St Agnes.
